PORTSMOUTH, VA - I don't make a whole lot of endorsements here at octaneonline, but after reading Matthew Biberman's book, Big Sid's Vincati, I felt compelled to. It's a great read.
Motorcyclists and hot rodders will appreciate the sacrifice the main characters, author Matthew Biberman and his dad Big Sid, world renowned in Vincent circles, made to create this ultimate motorcycle - the Vincati. Call it a chopper. Call it a special. Call it what you will. I call it badass. This is a custom build in the truest sense - a hot rod Vincent motor in a Ducati GT frame. Finesse meets firepower.
Local Virginia readers will also enjoy the historic account of Big Sid's coming of age in Norfolk, VA. Some of you locals may even know Sid. Though I have never met him, it seems we have some friends in common. I didn't grow up in Hampton Roads, but I have lived here for thirteen years, and I was fascinated by Biberman's first hand account of Norfolk's changing landscape over the decades his family spent in Norfolk.
This really is much more than the story of a motorcycle though. Take the Vincati out of the equation and this is a story of redemption, understanding, and making up for lost time. We should all be so lucky as to have a second chance to connect with the misunderstood family we've taken for granted. If you've ever struggled to connect with your family, you'll see a little bit of yourself in Big Sid's Vincati.
Look for an in-depth review of Big Sid's Vincati here at octaneonline.com soon. Meanwhile, you can pick up your own copy at your local bookseller, or visit www.bigsid.com for more information. You won't be disappointed.
